Film

This is some of my "favorite" movies.
  • Hard to Be a God : The black and white style empower this movie so that you don't really know what you are watching most of the time.
  • Suspiria : The lighting (colors) work in this movie is incredible and it was copied many times over such as in Beetlejuice (e.g. blue ring lighting behind the doors), other good stuff is the soundtrack and camera work (e.g. the sleeping witch shadow scene or the few early minutes), didn't like the sequels as much, second is weakest to my opinion but has some nice scenes and the third is actually fun and had ideas and style but is too much of a gore fest. Perhaps the colors use can also be retraced to Mario Bava gothic movies which played with similar vibes much earlier.
  • The fearless vampire killer : Parody but not without some ambience, quite like the pacing.
  • The Dark Crystal : Incredible tone and aesthetic which feels like John Bauer fairy tale work. Also like the distilled Gnostic elements. The series is good as well. An equally unique movie is Labyrinth although i don't really like the story and some of the David Bowie scenes.
  • Chronopolis : Very crafty stop motion science fiction film with music composed by Luc Ferrari which is a reference to me as well, there is some Solaris influences in there to my opinion although i never saw this mentioned anywhere from the limited interviews etc. both authors are polish and theme seems to be pretty similar.
